what i bring to the table

  • Over 6 years of solid, continuous hands-on professional experience in Front End Web Design and Development (12 total)
  • trained specifically in W3C standards based coding for valid, cross-browser, cross-platform, spider-friendly results, usability, accessibility, and Search Engine Optimization
  • experience designing and coding both as an independent consultant (from pre-concept to post-launch) and as a more specialized in-house member of a larger corporate team
  • versatility, flexibility—I can design and build entire sites from scratch, code existing comps down to the pixel using XHTML, CSS, JQuery, etc., or integrate and customize just about any of the trillions of widgets, templates, scripts and plug-ins out there
  • strong visual design skills in both print and web, with eagle-eyed attention to detail
  • proven creative problem solving skills
  • self-starter who takes responsibility easily and naturally, with little to no supervision
  • "where there's a will, there's a way" attitude—resourcefulness, persistence
  • usually involved in something industry-related outside the normal work week, whether it's extra consulting work, or serving as a volunteer designer/developer for causes I believe in
  • unwavering commitment to ongoing professional development—independently seeking out new areas and/or keeping my skills current by constantly refreshing and expanding already existing knowledge, through industry blogs, iTunes U vodcasts and podcasts, online classes, books, lectures, meet-ups, competitions, etc.
  • experience and involvement in a plethora of various social media over the past 12 years—Wordpress, Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Flickr, YouTube, Blogger, LiveJournal, Friendster, MySpace, Tribe—with solid understanding of their use as community building, collaboration, page rank and viral marketing tools
  • excellent references

what i'm looking for

Sometimes if you're too specific about what you want, you may miss out on something even better. So if you have or know of something different from the list below but think I might be a good fit, bookmark this site and contact me. That said, here are my ideals (some a fully negotiable 'cherry on top'; some not):

  • 32–40 hrs/wk, salaried, full benefits
  • market rate for San Francisco
  • liberal, dog-friendly work environment with people who are passionate about what they do, in a company that values diversity
  • flex scheduling and/or periodic telecommuting options
  • room for growth
  • tuition reimbursement, professional development hours, BAVC participation, or other tangible commitment to maintaining a competitive team
  • karma points. It's important to me to feel good about what I do, whether that means working for a nonprofit, a for-profit in an industry with positive impact (education, health, environmental, arts, etc.), or simply having the opportunity to produce work I can be proud of

take your shoes off, stay a while

What you'll find here is a sampling of web development, web design, and multimedia art work I've done over the past 12 years.

The more tools you have in your toolbox, the easier it is to find the best solutions, solve problems creatively, and take on new challenges fearlessly.

“We are currently preparing students for jobs that don't yet exist, using technologies that haven't been invented, in order to solve problems we don't even know are problems yet.”
—Karl Fisch, Shift Happens
